Square Enix has finally put a release date on their upcoming open world cop game, Sleeping Dogs. The dates have been set for August 17 and August 14 this year, in the UK and US respectively.
The True Crime reboot (Sleeping Dogs was previously True Crime: Hong Kong, before getting dropped by Activision), which Square Enix describes as “a gritty open world cop drama set in the vibrant city of Hong Kong,” will also have pre-order editions which include extra content. The downloadable PC version will also be getting some exclusive goodies that are yet to be announced.
If you have no idea what Sleeping Dogs is, allow Square Enix to get you excited: “Featuring an intuitive and imaginative combat system, Sleeping Dogs empowers players to perform an extensive set of martial arts moves, single-handedly taking on numerous opponents. Players perform bone-crushing kicks and combos, vicious counters, and a cinematic set of environmental takedowns making use of countless real-world items from circular saws to phone booths, incinerators to refrigerator doors.”
It would appear to have a similar gameplay style to the GTA games, but with a lot more focus on the combat system. It is Hong Kong, after all.
If you’re still feeling pretty meh about it, I’ll give it one last shot – check out the gameplay preview below:
I’ll be honest, the guy in the video doesn’t sound impressed, lol. Game looks pretty cool though.
