This week offers up a paltry selection of games that cater for only two types of gamers out there – Xbox 360 gamers, and the other kind that actually buys movie-to-game adaptations.
We try our best to pretend the latter don’t exist.
Indeed, this week only really has two biggies coming out – the Enhanced Edition of The Witcher 2 which is making its debut on consoles (Xbox 360) – and Battleship, which looks…yeah.
The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition (Xbox 360, PC)
The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings came out on PC in May 2011, and was very well received – at least 2 people at the MyGaming office voted it best RPG of 2011, losing out only to Skyrim.
Now, almost a year on, Xbox 360 gamers will get the chance to play the game with The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition, which features new content not available in the initial release. PC gamers will also be able to get the ‘enhanced’ version of the game for free, if you haven’t played it already.
The Witcher 2 follows series protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, one of the few remaining Witchers – and features a branching story that has multiple endings depending on how you’ve played. Add some tactical, action-packed combat into the mix, and things start getting interesting.
Xbox 360 owners can get their hands on this awesome game for the first time on April 17 (that’s tomorrow!) and PC gamers who missed their chance last year can grab it as well.
Battleship (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, NDS, 3DS)
So Battleship: The Movie is based on the popular Hasbro game of the same name – except it doesn’t involve two tweenagers shouting out “E-6!” in mom and dad’s living room, rather opting for alien invasions and explosions.
Being a movie-game, Activision have naturally picked up the license, and are releasing the game on every platform out there. The NDS, 3DS and Wii versions of the game will be a more traditional turn-based affair where you attack and defend – just like the boardgame!
The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will be a stand-alone story featuring first-person action gameplay.
Battleship: The boardgame: The Movie: The Videogame will be everywhere short of the Nokia NGage this Friday, 20 April 2012.
Check out the other releases this week. There aren’t many.
