Valve’s upcoming multi-platform, squad-based FPS, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO), has been in closed beta testing since November 2011 – and it’s now a lot closer to home.
MWEB GameZone has announced that they now have two live CS: GO servers – each one located in the respective Johannesburg and Cape Town data-centres. This should be good news for lucky locals who have managed to secure access to the closed beta testing period, as international latency is not ideal for fast-paced FPS.
CS: GO is pegged to launch on Windows PC, Mac OS X, Xbox 360 (via XBLA) and PS3 (via PSN). Originally planned for cross-platform play between PC and Xbox 360, that idea has been shelved due to the technicality of such a system.
The game will remain in closed beta for the foreseeable future, until Valve is ready to open it up to public testing ahead of shipping the game to retail.
