Stalker 2 cancelled as studio closes doors

26 April 2012

It’s official – Stalker developer GSC has officially stopped operations and cancelled the development of Stalker 2.

The Ukrainian developer has been in financial troubles for quite some time, and the inevitable has happened, with GSC closing its doors.

Sad news for Stalker fans, as the post-apocalyptic shooter sequel seems to be in limbo now.

On the plus side, the development team promises to “do its best” and have formed a spin-off studio, Vostok Games.

Vostok are currently developing a new free-to-play MMO FPS called ‘Suvarium’, which will return players to the Stalker games’ setting of ‘The Zone’.

“The concept of Survarium is a next evolution step for the idea of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. we’ve been working on for the last ten years,” said project lead Ruslan Didenko.

“Survarium will go way further forcing mankind to fight for survival not only within the closed area of Chernobyl zone, but also far beyond.”
