Bad news for fans of Bayonetta – the sequel may be shelved indefinitely.

Due to Sega’s recent layoffs and restructuring, Bayonetta 2 seems to be halted as Platinum Games’ Sega-published projects are at risk due to little commercial success from the publisher.

The sequel, which hasn’t been announced, was rumoured to feature a new protagonist, in the form of a US military member.

Sega recently announced the dramatic restructuring of the company after the publisher performed poorly over the last fiscal year. Due to this, a number of games and projects are said to of been cancelled.

The original Bayonetta came out with a great critical reception and immediate cult following, although it didn’t fare so well in the sales department. Platinum Games are currently working on Metal Gear Rising: Revengence.
