Forza 4: Top Gear Car Pack DLC review (Xbox 360)

12 May 2012

Forza 4 has been treated with integrated Top Gear challenges as well as the official Top Gear test track found at the Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey, UK.

This time round, the Top Gear DLC drops 10 new cars for your racing and drifting pleasure.

The line-up includes:

  • 2012 Hennessey Venom GT
  • 1977 AMC Pacer X
  • 2011 Ford Transit SuperSportVan
  • 2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
  • 1966 Lotus Cortina
  • 1992 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4
  • 2012 Smart ForTwo
  • 1990 Subaru Legacy RS
  • 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8
  • 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII

Highlights

Hennessey Performance have taken an innocent Lotus Elise and ripped out its guts and replaced them with a twin-turbo 6.2 litre V8 engine capable of 1200hp! If Satan had a track-day car, this would be it.

The Hennessey Venom GT will leave you immersed in racing for hours with its record shattering 15.3 seconds 0-328km/h. Most of all, it will be hard to get the sound of those hissing turbos out of your head.

Lowlights

Describing this car pack as strange would be an understatement. Excluding the Venom GT and Chrysler 300 SRT8, I found the rest of the cars to be rather lackluster and dull.

From a Smart car to a racing panel van, the selection of cars featured leaves me confused if not baffled. Pity – the only way I got to enjoy these cars was to customise and upgrade them way beyond their standard configuration.

Conclusion

Yes, the cars do have rich histories and fascinating tales but what transpires on screen is a bland racing experience.

This DLC correctly reflects the BBC Top Gear TV show as it features cars deserving of a laugh, but paying 560 MS points (±R55) for a one-hit-wonder car pack isn’t worth the joke.

And to all owning a Forza 4 Season Pass, this car pack is excluded, so this DLC (111MB) would have to be purchased separately.
