FortressCraft dev blames Minecraft community after DDoS attack

11 May 2012

FortressCraft developer Adam Sawkins is back in the news, only this time he’s taking time out from telling everybody how much his game is totally nothing like Minecraft, okay, and instead blaming the Minecraft community for a recent denial of service attack on his website. It’s a whole new strategy – let’s see how it works out for him.

“F**k you and your ‘community’, @Notch,” he posted on Twitter, after FortressCraft.com went down on Wednesday just in time for the launch of Minecraft on the Xbox LIVE Arcade.

“We know *who* it was, but sadly we didn’t get a note in the post saying WHY,” he later told Eurogamer. “We’ve sailed over our cap for the month so far, and are going through the process of talking to the police about it.”

Late last night, it was confirmed that the Minecraft launch had already broken XBLA sales records, shifting more than 400,000 copies in its first 24 hours of release.

Sawkins was not impressed.

“The poor (relative) quality and alleged success of Minecraft 360 has confused me,” he said. “4J had no budget restrictions, unfettered access to Microsoft, and a solid, world-class game as a template, and still managed to ship a game with a tiny world, no working skins, and no dedicated servers – and even that was a port of a 14 month old snapshot of the MC source base.”

In September last year, Sawkins predicted that Minecraft would bomb on XBLA, saying that “Nobody will pay for Minecraft when they can pay $3.00 for Total Miner or FortressCraft.”

Ell oh ell.
