Internet Explorer coming to Xbox

11 May 2012

As part of its ongoing efforts to make everything else in your life totally irrelevant, Microsoft is reportedly planning to add Internet Explorer to the Xbox dashboard through an update. You’ll never have to use any other device for anything ever again! Except to use Firefox or Chrome, obviously.

According to The Verge, Internet Explorer for Xbox will include a fully expanded browsing interface integrated with the Bing search function, and support Kinect gesture and voice control.

I don’t think I want to know what gesture goes with “Xbox! Search for ‘furry fanart’!”

Although the browser would be “tuned for Kinect usage”, however, it’s apparently not a requirement. I’m not sure how useful a browser would be without a keyboard, but it’s probably not a limitation but a feature. Or something like that.

The Verge’s sources didn’t give a launch date, although if this is really going to be a thing, expect to see some news about it next month at E3.
