Journey creator: “Computer games are not good enough for adults”

Creator of the innovative game Journey, Jenova Chen, believes that most video games aren’t stimulating enough for adults, and need to include more relevant themes.

“My biggest complaint for computer games so far is they are not good enough for adults,” he said.

“For adults to enjoy something, they need to have intellectual stimulation, something that’s related to real life. Playing poker teaches you how to deceive people, and that’s relevant to real life. A headshot with a sniper rifle is not relevant to real life. Games have to be relevant intellectually.

“You also need depth. You have the adventure – the thrill of the adventure – but you want the goosebumps too.”

“Can games make you and another human learn something intellectual and relevant from each other?” he asked.

“Can games make you and another human experience an emotion that’s deep enough to touch adults? I’m working on all of that. Making emotional games and making them intellectually relevant; making games where people can connect and come together.”

Bullshit, Strategy games teach you Macro and micro management including multitasking, very relevant in today’s world.deceiving your opponent is also a highly tactical manoeuvre in strategy.(Starcraft, Supreme Commander)

RPG games engage you on a personal level, sometimes growing attached to your characters, deciding how you want to achieve your goals through the various options available. Not to mention story telling and adventure.(WoW, Dragon Age,Skyrim)

FPS are mostly just hand to eye co-ordination, and timing, that’s true, but don’t tell me grown ups don’t like things like pinball, certain sports or any other twitch based games(Call of Duty, Battlefield)

and there are so many other mentally engaging games out there which I’m sure I’ve never heard of.

    SO yea, I call bullshit.
