XCOM: Enemy Unknown invades Earth later this year

22 May 2012

The long-awaited reboot to 1993’s X-Com has finally secured a release date after jumping around for quite some time.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will release on 9 October 2012.

Not to be confused with 2K Marin’s XCOM re-imagining (which will be a shooter), one of the world’s most revered strategy developers, Firaxis, has confirmed that their turn-based strategy reboot of the iconic XCOM franchise will make the 2012 release schedule.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will strive to remain true to the original, bringing tactical strategy and action-oriented gameplay.

“We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both die-hard X-COM fans and newcomers to the franchise,”  said Steve Martin, president of Firaxis Games in an early interview for the game.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will also feature destructible and dynamic environments, and an adjustable strategic camera view.

Some pre-order incentives have also been revealed, making the 19 year wait that much tougher.

Pre-orders will get the Elite Soldier Pack, and will receive a classic X-COM soldier, who will be available to recruit from the get-go, along with a bunch of aesthetic armour upgrades.
