Games you can play this week

28 May 2012

Following a week of political and cultural controversy, demon-slaying and future soldiering, gamers can look forward to a number of titles celebrating franchises that are close to our hearts, as well as some games that celebrate what’s hot at the moment.

PC gamers will be happy to know that they finally get their hands on Max Payne 3. Below are a couple of highlights you should keep your eyes on this week.

Resistance: Burning Skies (1 June 2012)

The Resistance series has inevitably made its way to Sony’s new handheld device, the PS Vita, and we couldn’t be happier. This entry is introducing a new hero, story and experience that Resistance fans will be eager to get their hands on.

Resistance: Burning Skies introduces Tom Riley, a New York fire-fighter, who has to step in and play his part in the interplanetary conflict that unfolded throughout the Resistance series.

The game utilises the dual-analogue control of the Vita in order to deliver a high-calibre FPS experience, while also incorporating the touch capabilities of the device.

Burning Skies is looking to be one of the stand-out games for the PS Vita so far, and with the series’ strong fan dedication and appreciation, it’s no doubt that Vita owners will be salivating at store counters come its release this week.

Game of Thrones (1 June 2012)

With the incredible surge of popularity for the Game of Thrones TV series, it’s no surprise that George R. R. Martin inspired show is getting a video game tie-in.

The game plays out as an action role-playing game, similar to that of the Dragon Age series, where players experience the journey of two characters: Mors Westford, a veteran ranger of the Night’s Watch, and Alester Sarwyck, a red-robed priest of R’hillor.

The game will plunge players into the Game of Thrones world more so than ever before, with authentic music, locations and themes from the series, while entangling it all in deep RPG elements and intricate swordplay.
