Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) Santa Monica announced at E3 yesterday that God of War 3 is scheduled to be released in March 2010.
God of War III is arguably the most anticipated PS3 exclusive that is currently being developed.
SCE did not share actual game details; however they did allow journalists at the event to take part in a playable demonstration of the game.
“Based on the E3 demo, God of War III looks promising. It didn’t strike me as a massive leap forward for the series–the dark-as-pitch tone and gloriously brutal gameplay remains front and center–but an improved camera, far grander scale and impressive lighting look to go a long way in enhancing the unrelenting action,” said Greg Mueller of Shacknews.
A few God of War III details have however been leaked over the past few months leading up to E3.
Unconfirmed leaked GOW3 details
– Kratos will begin the game already in possession of many abilities that required unlocking in previous titles.
– The third in the series will not be the final God of War (GoW) game, but it will act as a sort of resolution to the trilogy.
– Where GoW2’s Kratos was made up of 5,000 polygons, the third instalment will see the hulking brute rendered using 20,000.
– New weapons will be available, deviating from the awesome yet admittedly tiring “Blades of Chaos”.
– Where GoW 2 was limited to 15 enemies on screen at a given time, GoW 3 will have as many as 50.
– Kratos will be able to control certain monsters, the Cyclops being the example given, in a sort of vehicular fashion
– Enemies have wisened up and will now coordinate their attacks.
– Kratos’s new power source comes from somewhere other than the Gods, now that they aren’t exactly seeing eye to eye.
– Titans will play a more upfront roll this time, as opposed to simply providing players with cool background setpieces to look at.
In other God of War news, Kratos has been confirmed to appear as a playable character in the upcoming Soul Calibur for PSP.
