Final Fantasy VII available on PSN – local bandwidth

8 June 2009

Squaresoft’s (now Square Enix) classic PSOne RPG is now available for download over the Playstation network.

The download weighs in at 1.32GB and costs R95 to purchase.

The game will run on the PS3 as well as the PSP, and gamers can actually swap saved games between the two consoles, effectively playing the game in one continuous profile on two separate machines.

Thanks to the fact that the Playstation Network (PSN) store has Akamaia, a locally hosted mirror, PSN users can make use of local bandwidth when downloading anything from PSN.

All PSN users have to do in order to download from the store using local bandwidth is login using their regular international ISP account details and select the download. Once the purchase has been made and the download is running in the background, users need to restart their router and switch over to a local bandwidth account.

The rest of the download will then be completed using the local only bandwidth, negating the high cost of international bandwidth which Xbox 360 and PC users usually have to endure.
