Mass Effect 3’s new Platinum difficulty is too hard even for the developers

16 July 2012

This week’s freebie Mass Effect 3 DLC drop, Earth, adds a brand new, top-tier Platinum difficulty mode that’s so hard, most of the developers at BioWare can’t finish it. Honestly, the prospect of a difficulty harder than Gold is already enough to give me the cold sweats.

“Platinum is so hard that only a handful of people at the office itself have ever beat it,” BioWare’s Mike Gamble told Gamespot at San Diego Comic Con over the weekend.

Back in March, a Mass Effect 3 infographic released by BioWare showed that less than 1 percent of players finish a game on Gold difficulty.

“We know that the players have been getting better and better since we launched,” Gamble said, presumably alluding the same less than 1 percent of players.

The DLC also adds six new classes, new weapons and upgrades, and three new maps, and is scheduled to launch tomorrow. May God have mercy on your souls, because the Banshees definitely won’t.
