My Xbox LIVE update turns your iPad into a remote control

17 July 2012

It’s not quite SmartGlass (yet), but an update late yesterday for Microsoft’s official My Xbox LIVE iOS app has added media controls for iPad so you can use your tablet to do things like fast forward and rewind and play stuff on your console. You know, in case you didn’t want to use your Xbox controller for some reason.

A similar update was dropped for the My Xbox LIVE app for iPhone last month already, but this one is bigger.

To get your iPad and your Xbox talking, download the update on your tablet and sign into Xbox LIVE on your console, then set the Xbox Companion to “Available” in the Settings > System > Console Settings menu. Just like that!

Also just like that, there’s still no support to make Xbox LIVE purchases through the app. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d have thought that was the most obvious and useful feature for an app like this. Just me? Okay, I’ll shut up now.

I’d love an Android app for this, I use my PS3 and 360 for streaming and it would be awesome to use my tab or phone as a remote. Man being a geek is awesome!!!!
