Everybody’s doing it, so why can’t Square Enix? I guess that was the decision behind the Japanese publisher backing the Hot! New! Everybody’s Doing It! Ouya console with the announcement that Final Fantasy III would be one of its launch titles.
The game will be “fully optimised” for Ouya, according to Square Enix-everything news site Square Portal, and include a free downloadable demo because the Ouya console is all about free-to-play… demos.
Final Fantasy III launched on Android devices back in March already, so Square Enix committing a game that’s already been made to a console that doesn’t exist (yet) is a pretty risk-free proposition for the company. Square Enix will also apparently be providing “more content” for the console in the future. Wait, wait, I know – other Android-based ports of their back catalogue resized for your tellybox. You read it here first, people.
The Ouya Kickstarter campaign has banked just over $5.8 million with more than a week still left on the clock.
