EA have announced that the upcoming Command & Conquer Generals 2 is being shifted into a free-to-play experience.
“We are thrilled about this opportunity to transform Command & Conquer into a premier online experience,” said Jon Van Caneghem, VP/GM at EA.
“For nearly two decades, this franchise has existed as something you buy; now we are creating a destination where our fans will be able to access the entire Command & Conquer universe, starting with Generals and continuing with Red Alert, Tiberium and beyond.”
The long-awaited sequel will be focused on an online experience and run on DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine, providing destructibility and sharp visuals to the tactical RTS.
Command & Conquer: Generals 2 is being developed exclusively by Bioware Victory for PC, and is expected to be released sometime in 2013.
