PS3 Firmware 3.0 introduces a number of new errors

4 September 2009

Reports are beginning to surface that the new Playstation 3 Firmware 3.0 update, which was released this week, is causing controllers to malfunction.

According to complaints the update is causing ‘Ceramic White’ dual shock controllers to fail. When turned on the controller LED ports light up to indicate that it is active but the controller does not interface with the console.

Although this error is not affecting every ceramic white PS3 dual shock controller out there, a significant portion has been bricked by Firmware 3.0. Sony has not yet commented on the error but reports indicate that the vast majority of the affected products are or might be counterfeit goods.

So far the update has introduced its fair share of glitches to the console. Some users have complained of new bugs in games such as Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Wipeout:HD.

None of these have been confirmed as widespread issues across the PS3 market. Instead the complaints seem to have been voiced by an unlucky few.
