It looks like Fortnite may be getting a closed beta sometime early next year. The news comes via Joystiq, who witnessed developer Epic give someone a “golden ticket” at a Fortnite PAX panel. The ticket will grant them early access to a closed beta – a beta which until this point hadn’t even been announced.
Upon some follow-up questioning, the game’s producer Tanya Jessing did confirm after the panel concluded that “there will definitely be a closed beta,” but remained tight-lipped about the possibility of an open beta to follow for those who don’t hold one of the lucky tickets.
Epic design director Cliff Bleszinski wasn’t forthcoming with any further information, saying that the subject was still “to be decided”.
Fortnite was revealed to the world as a sandbox co-operative survival game last month at Comic Con, a multiplayer title which will have players building bases and scavenging for resources. It’ll also be Epic’s first game to use the Unreal 4 engine.
