Borderlands 2 bug strips Badass ranks

25 September 2012

The game’s been out less than a week, and Borderlands 2 is already broken for some players. According to reports over on the official forum, a bug is resetting the game’s Badass tokens, and locking players out from getting them back.

Badass tokens are awarded for completing in-game challenges, and can be redeemed for special skins and upgrades. The bug removes all tokens, associated gear and bonuses, but leaves the challenge progress unchanged, meaning there’s no way to earn them over again.

The problem is affecting users on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, but – for the moment, anyway – seems to be somewhat isolated to just a few unlucky Vault Hunters.

“Our engineers are looking into this, and the information you’ve provided has proven to be a great resource while we investigate,” Gearbox community manager Chris Faylor said in response. “At the moment, it seems to be a fairly rare issue and we’ll keep you updated on when we resolve it.”

In the meantime, it’s recommended that you use the save and quit option before powering down your PC or console, as the bug may be related to save file corruption.
