Uncharted 3 confirmed

25 September 2009

Developer Naughty Dog’s hugely anticipated Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has not even been released yet and the game’s lead designer Neil Druckmann has already announced to the press that Uncharted 3 will look better than Uncharted 2. The announcement was made at the Sony Holiday Preview Event in West Hollywood.

According to the developer, the soon to be released sequel to Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune uses all of the PS3’s graphics processing potential, however Druckmann obviously still feels that there is room for improvement in the visuals department.

Druckmann explained that the visuals could be improved with further engine optimization.

International press who have secured early review copies of the game are reporting that it is arguably the best looking PS3 game yet released. Apart from the high quality visuals, early reviews report that all other aspects of the game are also of the highest quality. IGN has given the game 95/100, while Games Radar and PlayStation: The Official Magazine have both awarded the game 100/100.

While Druckmann’s optimism about Uncharted 3 is promising, one has to question the thinking behind making a comment that essentially downplays the importance of Uncharted 2 which is going to market in October.
Furthermore, stating that Uncharted 3 will look better than Uncharted 2 is pointless as a natural progression in the visuals department is expected in a sequel.

The announcement does confirm however that the developer is already looking at Uncharted 3, a fact which does not come as a surprise given the inevitable high sales that Uncharted 2 will experience.
