Battlefield 3 crossbow lets you kill with style

Battlefield 3 is preparing for the upcoming expansion, Aftermath, and undoubtedly the most exciting thing is that crossbows are being added to the game. Crossbows!

The new weapons will allow players to mix up their tactics, with more ways to kill silently or blow-up walls, and DICE have detailed the new additions in a post on the Battlefield blog.

Standard bolts will be used to kill enemies at short to medium range distances; for long range kills, balanced bolts will do the trick.

There are also scan bolts, which will highlight enemies within 10 meters of the bolts location, and explosive bolts, which – you totally guessed it – explode on impact.

DICE says that the crossbow is designed to be dynamic and flexible, as opposed to powerful. “While none of the available bolts are as powerful as the standard weapons they mimic (a genuine sniper rifle will always be more powerful than a sniper bolt, for example), the ability to switch bolt types on the fly means any class can adapt to any situation.”

Aftermath is tagged at $14.99 / 1200 MSP and will roll out for PS3 Battlefield Premium subscribers on 27 November, Xbox 360 and PC Premium subscribers on 4 December, other PS3 players on 11 December, and everybody else a week later, on 18 December.
