Microsoft is said to be working on an Xbox Surface tablet, according to the Verge.
The device, which would be designed specifically for gaming, is rumoured to feature a 7-inch display and will run on a gaming-centric version of Windows.
This will be a spin-off of the 10-inch Surface tablet that Microsoft has just released.
Microsoft is keeping tight-lipped about the whispers. “We don’t comment on rumours or speculation,” said a Microsoft representative.
Back in June, an alleged hardware document for an Xbox Surface tablet emerged, showing that the 7-inch tablet will include an ARM-based Texas instruments processor, 288MB of RAM, and a 1280 x 720 resolution.
The document also stated that the device will work in conjunction with a “stationary computing device”, possibly alluding the next Xbox console.
Microsoft have also introduced the SmartGlass application, which will utilise various tablets with the current Xbox 360 systems, but having a dedicated gaming tablet for the purpose looks to be the company’s next move.

To be honest the signs have been pointing to this for a while. I mean the move of Xbox live to the Windows platform?
This would kill Apple’s chance of entering the gaming market (provided the rumors are true- and that they are intending to enter it) …Microsoft is a trusted brand who sells high end hardware (well, the Xbox 360 was high end upon release) at a far lower price than competitors. They also won back the support of their clients with the great customer service surrounding the RRoD debacle of the early 360 years.
If Apple tried to enter the market, you can be certain that they’ll overprice their units
