Microsoft releasing a casual Xbox device – report

23 November 2012

While it’s already the world’s worst-kept secret that Microsoft is preparing to unveil the Xbox 720, a new report suggests that another version of the console will release alongside the next-gen hardware piece.

The second console will be more affordable and accessible, and aimed at the casual gaming market.

The console is said to use Windows 8, and while it won’t run triple-A hardcore titles, it will support downloadable Xbox Live games and casual releases.

The device will essentially be a set-top box, and will act as an “always on” device that boots quickly and resumes to provide near-instant access to TV and entertainment services.

The device is rumoured to be revealed in 2013.
