While the US government spends billions of dollars on petty terrestrial wars here on Planet Earth, some citizens have decided that the cash would be much better spend on a space station. Not just any space station, mind you, but a fully operational, armored battle station with the power to destroy entire worlds (more or less). Basically, a Death Star.
Nevermind Afghanistan, there’s a whole galaxy to invade before they can put a McDonalds quickstop on every corner.
A petition launched on the White House’s official “We The People” soapbox is demanding that the US government get busy building the Death Star, and pretty soon too:
Those who sign here petition the United States government to secure funding and resources, and begin construction on a Death Star by 2016.
By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense.
Somewhat surprisingly (or not), only about 1100 people have signed the petition so far. I find the Americans’ lack of faith disturbing.

Weapons of mass destruction (Nuclear etc) are banned in space by international treaty. But hey, they can always ignore the other 100 nations that have signed up 🙂
