Irrational aims to please PC players with Bioshock Infinite

There’s no doubt that PC can be the unwanted stepchild of the games industry. They represent less money for developers and a big piracy problem, and as such PC players can sometimes get the short end of the stick with restrictive DRM measures and a “ported” feel.

Mouse and keyboard veterans will be happy to hear then that Irrational’s Ken Levine has said that for Bioshock Infinite they “have a dedicated group on the PC version.” The news came via a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Thursday night, where Levine stated that “our first priority is making sure that it feels like a game that is at home on the PC.”

“Chris Kline our director of tech, has been driving this process, Levine continued. “We’re very sensitive (after getting a well deserved reaming once before) on the issues of widescreen and mouse acceleration. We also want to make sure that the fans have effortless access to the game, so we’re using Steam’s standard DRM. People have asked before if we’re using GFWL and/or SecuRom, and we are not. I also have to say, the game looks beautiful on PC.”

PC players had previously complained about the two preceding Bioshock games having some severe porting problems, specifically regarding widescreen support.

Levine also confirmed in the AMA that Garry Schyman, the composer who worked on both Bioshock 1 and 2, will be returning for the third title as well.
