6,000 indie games and 78,000+ votes across a 20 day voting blowout, and IndieDB has crowned the best indie games of 2012. This class of top honours joins previous winners such as Minecraft and Terraria.

If you are looking to stock up on some indie gaming goodness, then look no further than IndieDB’s community voted top 10 Indie Games of 2012.

10 -Primal Carnage

A multiplayer first person shooter where players must work as a team. In Primal Carnage, you can play as one of two factions: dinosaurs or humans.

9 – Renegade X

Renegade X is a free indie game – a tactical first/third person shooter with RTS, set in the Command & Conquer universe.

8 – Legend of Grimrock

Legend of Grimrock revived the classic dungeon crawling. The game’s fantasy setting has underground adventuring, tricky puzzles, combat and role-playing elements.

7 – Hotline Miami

Set in an alternative 1989 Miami, you will assume the role of a mysterious anti-hero on a murderous rampage against the shady underworld at the behest of voices on your answering machine.

6 – Natural Selection 2

THe successor to a favourite Half-Life mod of the same name, Natural Selection 2features a mix of FPS and RTS gameplay. Play as one of the elite marine Frontiersmen or the vicious alien Kharaa. Marines buy weaponry and form persistent squads to find and destroy alien hives. Aliens can choose a wall-running Skulk, pudgy Gorge, flying Lerk, murderous Fade or gigantic Onos that can devour enemies whole.

5 – Torchlight 2

Long-awaited hack n’ slash Torchlight 2 launched in the wake of Diablo 3, but still managed to set itself apart, as well as catering to PC gamers who wanted LAN as well as online co-op multiplayer.

4 – Faster Than Light

Faster Than Light is a spaceship simulation roguelike-like. Its aim is to recreate the atmosphere of running a spaceship exploring the galaxy (like Firefly/Star Trek/BSG etc).

3 – M&B Warband: Napoleonic Wars

A multiplayer expansion pack for Mount & Blade: Warband featuring the last years of the Napoleonic Wars. From the invasion of Russia to fighting the French at Waterloo, there are five supreme European powers from the era with more than 220 unique units to play.

2 – Transformice

A multiplayer Flash game, where you are a small mouse out to get a piece of cheese and return to your mouse hole. The game includes a physics engine, so the multiplayer aspect gets a lot of fun when many players rush forward blindly into one direction.

1 – Chivalry: Medieval Warfare

A first-person medieval online combat game that seeks to deliver intense combat. Chivalry hurls the player into a fictional medieval world where the Agathian Knights are battling against the newly formed Mason Order for control of the lands of Agatha.

    FTL was far more addictive than it should have been! Have only tried Torchlight 2 from the others on the list so maybe now I at least have a list of games that I should be focusing on (just wish there was more time!)
