Valve is showing off its much-rumoured living room PC hardware at the CES 2013 expo in Las Vegas. The company stopped short of labelling it “Steam Box”.
The hardware is developed by Xi3 Corporation and is “a development stage system optimized for computer gameplay on large high-definition television monitors”. The project is codenamed “Piston”.
The hardware itself will be encased in the large rubix-cube sized Xi3 Modular Computer chassis.
The device is said to support both Steam and its Big Picture Mode, which allows Steam games to be played on large HD TVs.
Xi3 president Jason A. Sullivan said that “this new system could provide access to thousands of gaming titles through an integrated system that exceeds the capabilities of leading game consoles, but can fit in the palm of your hand.”
CES 2013 is taking place from 8-11 January 2013.
