Sony announced at Mobile World Congress today (25 February 2013) that it plans to launch its Android tablet PC, the Xperia Tablet Z, during Q2 2013.
As Sony showed during their PlayStation 4 reveal, remote play and second screens are major features of the next-gen console, and a companion device such as the Xperia Tablet Z perfectly suits the bill.
The PS4 companion app will function on both Android and iOS devices.
Featuring a 10.1-inch display, support for Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks, and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro system-on-chip, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z boasts a competitive spec sheet.
Being 6.9mm thick, Sony said that, at the time of the announcement, the Xperia Tablet Z is the slimmest tablet in its class.
The IP55 and IP57 rating of the Sony Xperia Tablet Z also means it has the highest levels of water resistance ever delivered in a tablet, making it immune to accidental spills and splashes, Sony said.
It will be available in black or white, and in LTE and Wi-Fi versions.
