It was only a matter of time, and speculation and details following the announcement of Battlefield 4 have hit an all-time-high with rumoured information on the upcoming game emerging.
According to a forum member on the Chiphell forums, Battlefield 4 will feature the Frostbite 2.5 engine, which will result in even greater visuals and improved destruction using the Destruction 4.0 system. Tessellation technology will also allow for much more realistic water and terrain effects.
PC will also be the lead platform for Battlefield 4, but will maintain 60 FPS on 720p resolution on both next-gen consoles. The PC version of the game will include DirectX 11 compatibility.
In terms of multiplayer, the PC, PS4 and next Xbox will allow for 64 players on a map, while the PS3 and Xbox 360 version will stick to 24 players.
Battlefield 4 will feature dynamic weather effects, such as random rain, dust storms and other variants.
The game will be set in China in 2020, with the US and China as the main rivalling infantry factions. The campaign is said to last around 5-6 hours.
There are many more multiplayer maps, but the known maps that are said to be featured include:
- Diaoyu Island
- Tiananmen
- Shanghai Bund
- Xizhimen
- Xizhimen Rush
As for the weapons, the famous Chinese J20, Y20 and Xianglong would appear in the game, along with the M1A2 TUSK and PLA Type 9 tanks, which feature laser guidance and armour piercing rounds.
The maps are said to feature much larger air combat zones, allowing for more space for dogfights.
The Commander system will return, along with a revamped Skill System. Micro-transactions will also be present, but won’t affect game balance.
It’s said that there are already plans for DLC, such as a map pack which includes the Power Station in Dalian, Daqing Oil Fields, The Great Wall of China and Wake Island (classic Battlefield map).
EA and DICE will be revealing the game on 26 March 2013, so we’ll have to wait until then to see if the rumours hold true.
