AMD release Catalyst 10.1

28 January 2010

The first monthly update of the year for AMD’s HD series graphics cards is now available for download.

The update is applicable for all HD 2000, HD 3000, HD 4000 and HD 5000 graphics cards.

The update includes a number of bug fixes, with little in the way of performance of functionality enhancement. One of the highlights is that the driver now support Ubuntu 9.10, although this only relevant to Linux users.

Other browser and OS based tweaks have been made to fix problems found in programs like Adobe Flash Player 10, and AMD has also fixed a few Eyefinity related problems.

The only games that have documented performance improvements are Left 4 Dead 2 and Crysis, but these are mild and estimated to equate to a 3 or 4 percent speed increase.

The download will require 50MB of international bandwidth, and may not be worthwhile for users unafacted by the listed bug fixes.
