The MyGaming DOTA 2 Sunday Evening Cup Series Season 2 is off to a great start, and there is still time to register for week 2. Due to the structure of the tournament, even teams that join in the later weeks have a chance to climbs the ranks and battle it out for the prize pool.
We are also proud to have SteelSeries (through Megarom) as a prize sponsor for Season 2, on top of R2,000 prize money sponsored by MyGaming.
PolarfluKe is running the tournament, and with years of experience hosting similar events in the SA competitive gaming scene, things are going to run smoothly.
Week 1 battles took place an Sunday 7 April – this post-event report is provided by resident PolarfluKe shoutcaster Kyle Wolmerans (aka Congo):
Season 2 of Sunday Evening Cup Series got off to a shaky start with the absence of a few players but none the less the games had to go on!
Round one kicked off with a featured game between our favourite rivals, Team Immersion’s Basher and Bravado Gaming. The game was tight from the get go with strong stable drafts from both teams. As the game drew out into the late game nobody was sure of the outcome as both teams were evenly matched. The hero line-up subtly favoured Basher in the late game but a strong performance and well coordinated team play earned Bravado a deserved win.
The rest of Round One was a bit messy with Energy eSports having to forfeit their game due to a roster irregularity which saw MfB advance into Round 2. New comers SAN and Hammer Team faced off in their SECS debut where SAN made their first Round 2. Lastly a mixed and matched ROCC were able to overpower Premier League foes kknP to secure their spot in Round 2.
The featured game in Round 2 was ROCC vs. Bravado. This was a game a lot of people had been waiting for as I must mentioned a roster change which has been effecting ROCC of late and that was the loss of their solo mid player Wesley “oDu” Rose to Bravado Gaming. The ROCC mix struggled under the force of Bravado and the game a one sided slug fest with Bravado emerging from the dust as victors.
Season 1 wonder boys MfB took on the new comers SAN in their Round 2 match and seized the win in true MfB fashion. The finals were set, Mfb vs. Bravado gaming for the week 1 of Season 2.
Straight from the drafting phase Bravado’s intentions were clear! Let’s set a record for the fastest rax push and let’s do it fast! MfB sported a similar push heavy lineup but they were not ready for what was about to happen. Bravado managed to apply insane amounts of pressure to the bottom lane and they took down the MfB’s barracks in 15 minutes to secure an easy season 2 week 1 final.
