2K has announced (or rather re-announced) the upcoming XCOM shooter, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.
The game is not exactly the same as the first person shooter shown a while ago, but instead will take the form of a tactical third-person shooter.
An XCOM FPS was originally announced back in 2010, but disappeared. A separate project, a turn-based strategy XCOM game, was then released in 2012.
But back to the Bureau – the upcoming game is in development at 2K Marin, and is set in 1962 with the Cold War providing the backdrop for the game.
Players will take the role of William Carter, a Bureau intelligence operative, who has to help fend off an alien invasion.
The game will feature a narrative-focused single-player campaign, but won’t have any multiplayer component.
“We’re thrilled about 2K Marin’s refined vision for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “The game has evolved through a creative and iterative development process, and the result is a narrative-driven experience that is smart, engaging, and challenges players to think tactically.”
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified will launch on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 23 August 2013.
