Assassin’s Creed creator fired from Ubisoft

Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Désilets has been fired from Ubisoft with immediate effect.

This is the second time that the designer has left the company, as in 2010, Désilets left Ubisoft to head up THQ Montreal. When things went south for the company, Ubisoft purchased the studio and its game projects.

A Ubisoft rep told Kotaku that, following the acquisition, “discussions between Patrice and Ubisoft aimed at aligning Patrice’s and the studio’s visions have been inconclusive”, and that “as a result, Patrice has left the studio.”

Désilets heard the news that Ubisoft was dealing out and decided to respond to clarify what exactly happened.

“Contrary to any statements made earlier today, this morning I was terminated by Ubisoft,” Desilets told Polygon. “I was notified of this termination in person, handed a termination notice, and was unceremoniously escorted out of the building by two guards without being able to say goodbye to my team or collect my personal belongings.”

“This was not my decision,” he added. “Ubisoft’s actions are baseless and without merit. I intend to fight Ubisoft vigorously for my rights, for my team and for my game.”

So it looks like there was a serious disagreement between Désilets and Ubisoft – hopefully things can be resolved for the man behind one of this generation’s strongest franchises.
