Quake Live turns one

In honour of the one year anniversary of Quake Live, id Software’s free to play browser shooter, the developer will be running a “Year One Event” until March the 9th.

Gamers that play during the next two weeks will all receive a “Year One” emblem on their profile. A new map has also uploaded to celebrate.

According to id Software the amount of traffic Quake Live has experienced in the last year has been unprecedented.

“The number of people that registered when the QUAKE LIVE Beta opened far exceeded our wildest expectations. Over a quarter million players created accounts right after its launch and that was through word of mouth only! Since that time, players have spent over 8.9 million hours in over 60 million ranked matches, earning an impressive 8 million awards and 810 million frags.”

Quake Live has also been a hit amongst local gamers who have been keen to take advantage of locally hosted servers for thegame provided by Internet Solutions.
