If you’ve been waiting in anticipation for the standalone release of DayZ, which started out as a side-project mod by Bohemia dev Dean Hall, then you’ll be glad to know that the team finally has a release period in sight for the alpha.
“I guess the big question that a lot of people have is when we’re actually going to get this out,” creator Dean Hall said. “We’ve set a date now – a window of about a week.”
“We’re not going to say when that is,” he said, “because we were originally going to release them in 50,000 key increments but we decided to do everything altogether,” elaborated Hall.
The devs are on the verge of opening up the alpha to the public, which will help them tweak and fix the game ahead of its full release.
“We really feel like we have to get the alpha out and start getting player feedback on where we’re at here,” he said.
Hall also explained that the lengthy development is to make sure that the game performs the best it can on PCs.
“If it has a great frame-rate – 60 fps on higher-end PCs – it means it can then run and support things like Oculus Rift and all those sort of awesome things as well,” he said.

This came out on Sunday and all of the forums were set on fire. I would say don’t put too much faith in the week thing since this is now officially their 4th “mention” of a date. Then again our little group of survivors have a bet on the date. I’m currently down for R200 on the 6th of July but I’m just an optimist.
