Nintendo has taken illegal R4 flashcard sellers to a Japanese court and won ¥95,620,005 (R9.5 million) in damages from the companies.
The companies Seafort Japan, Mediaforce, and Magical Company are guilty of the Unfair Competition Prevention Act for selling the piracy-enabling R4 cartridges for the Nintendo DS.
The R4 flash card allows users to install illegal copies of DS games onto an SD card.
Capcom, Namco Bandai, Konami, Square Enix, and D3 make up a few of the 49 plaintiffs who backed Nintendo’s lawsuit.
The damage payments come after the Japanese government ruled in 2012 that all R4 devices are illegal.
