For fans of things-that-go-bump-in-the-night, Warner Bros. and Aeria Games have announced FEAR Online – a free-to-play multiplayer entry into the nerve-racking action franchise.

“We are thrilled to present the next entry in one of the most popular horror franchises of the last decade,” said Tom Nichols, Vice President of PC Games, Aeria Games. “F.E.A.R. Online will bring back the tense, heart-pounding action that the series is known for and make it accessible to a huge online community of competitive players.”

FEAR Online will focus on multiplayer team battles, throwing players into haunted and grotesque maps as the Armacham Technology Corporation (ATC) and the elite F.E.A.R. team battle it out for survival against each other and some things hiding in the shadows.

Up to four players can team up and fight for their lives in the FEAR universe.

The Soul Kind mode from FEAR 3 makes a return and players can possess enemies for new abilities and gather souls to beat out your rivals.

As for the story, FEAR Online chronicles the happenings parallel to the events of FEAR 2: Project Origin.

FEAR Online will be free to download and free to play.
