News about the sci-fi shooter sequel, Prey 2, has subsided since development hit some speedbumps in 2012, but a new leak suggests that the title is still in development at Arkane Studios.
The news comes through leaked e-mails, which was written by Arkane Creative Director Raphael Colantonio, who said that the project would be a “reboot”.
“Austin has officially been green lit for its own project!” reads the e-mail from Colantonio to his staff back in May. “Doing a new IP was not a possibility because it’s adding risk to the challenge of growth, so after going back and forth with Todd, Harvey, Ricardo, we decided that Prey 2 presented an interesting opportunity if we could reboot it. Zenimax accepted our pitch which was “the spiritual successor to System Shock 3 [sic].”
The assumption is that Arkane will be starting the project from scratch and not using the build designed by Prey 2’s original developer Human Head Studios.
Arkane’s most recent project Dishonored was a critical and commercial success with critics and gamers alike.
