WoW player claims she was denied job for playing Horde

15 April 2010

A recent post on the official World of Warcraft forums recounts a player’s experience of not getting offered a job because she plays Horde in Blizzard’s popular MMO.

“I just got back from a final job interview for a pretty important position at a local Chicago television station. During the interview the person rightly asked what I like to do in my spare time. I mentioned that I enjoy playing “World of Warcraft” and much to my surprise my interviewer lit up and said he played to.

Well at this point I was thinking to myself “SCORE!” “I am in good with this guy and am sure to get the job.” He asked what race and class I play and I proudly said “Level 80 Blood Elf Priest.” He sat back in his chair and said, “Oh…I see. Well I play Alliance.” Almost immediately the interview was cut short and he thanked me for coming and then said, “I don’t think you’re what this station is looking for.”

Of course, it is a forum post, so it must be taken with a pinch of salt, but its pretty funny nonetheless. Would you tell a prospective employee at an interview that you play WoW?
