Following the reveal of Sony’s PS Vita TV, Sony has announced that there are no plans for the device to be launched in the United States or Europe as of yet, and elaborated on the capabilities of the new device.
In a pre-Tokyo Game Show event, Sony president and group CEO said that the PS Vita TV will be released first in Asian markets, including Japan, China, and South Korea, “but not in the US and European market at this point”.
House also added that the Gaikai-powered streaming service (that will feature on the PS4) could “technically” work on the PS Vita TV, and “SCE is considering providing PS3 games to the PS Vita TV by using the service in the future.”
House also elaborated on the aim to target China, if of course the restrictions on home consoles changes.
“At this point, the Chinese government prohibits the sales of home-use game consoles, but we expect that the prohibition will be dropped.”
“So, if the sales of home-use game consoles is permitted in, for example, the free trade zone of Shanghai, it will create a big business opportunity. We have high expectations for that.”
PS Vita TV is a new console for use in your home that plugs into your TV and gives access to video content and games services, as well as being able to stream to smart TVs across your home. It is capable of playing PS Vita game cards and can stream games running on the PS4 to another TV across our home network.
Sony says the PS Vita TV will make its debut in Japan on 14 November at a price equivalent to US $95.
