Guy sues Sony for removing Linux support from PS3

29 April 2010

According to Kotaku, Anthony Ventura has filed a class action lawsuit against Sony because they removed Linux support from the PS3 with a recent patch.

“Sony’s decision to force users to disable the Other OS function was based on its own interest and was made at the expense of its customers,” reads Ventura’s suit. Ventura is seeking damages for each member of the class action suit, which covers everyone who bought a PS3 between November 2006 and March 27, 2010. The legal documents indicate an amount in excess of $5 million.

Now, I’m no legal professor, but this just seems ridiculous. If you are really unhappy about the removal of Linux support, then do what this guy did, and try your luck getting a refund from the place you bought it. But suing Sony for removing a feature which was discovered to make pirating games for the PS3 possible, seems a bit unreasonable.

I’m sure some of you will disagree with me though, so flame away in the forums.
