Steampunk-inspired coffee shop makes waves in CT

24 September 2013

Cape Town is known for its coffee shops, and while it’s not necessarily gaming news, a new coffee shop’s interior aesthetic has generated so much buzz that it’s worthy of a mention.

Situated on Buitenkant Street in the city centre, Truth Coffee looks like something straight out of Bioshock’s Rapture, with its steampunk-inspired décor and throwback styling of an alternative Victorian era.

The shop itself is littered with old telephones, typewriters, and other mechanical machinery that lends to a really unique atmosphere.

Truth Coffee has only been open for a year and is already attracting international coverage on the internet

Truth Coffee’s David Donde said the inspiration for the design came from professional designer Heldane Martin. “Martin, turned to me one day and said: ‘know what you are? Steampunk’ and a year or two later we had our opportunity,” explained Donde.
