Bethesda Softworks registers Fallout 4 trademark

18 November 2013

Bethesda Software has filed a trademark for Fallout 4 with the Office for the Harmonization of the Internal Market for the European Union.

The trademark was filed on 14 November 2013 and is not a renewal of any previous trademarks that Bethesda already owns. Bethesda previously registered the trademark for Fallout: New Vegas four months before they released their teaser trailer for the game.

The trademark covers applications for several categories, including games, online information about games, printed media, and clothing, any original soundtracks and other miscellaneous items like stationery.

The trademark filing is rather close to the VGX 2013 game awards hosted by Spike TV and GameTrailers, which is where many new games are announced each year. The VGX awards would be a good spot to tease the game, as millions of gamers tune into the show to see what their favourite studios are working on.

Previously a teaser website, thesurvivor2299.com, was spotted by Reddit users and the site merely hosts a countdown timer that ends in approximately 23 days. Reddit users eventually identified the site owner as a Polish-based web designer who appears to have no links to Bethesda Software.
