Torchlight passes 500,000 sales, Developer bought out

18 May 2010

Runic Game’s understated yet critically successful retro style hack ‘n slash dungeon crawler, Torchlight, has surpassed 500,000 sales, making it a veritable mega-hit in the world of indie-games.

The game is currently available via a number of online distribution channels for around $20 (R150), and is frequently featured on various specials and sales. It is available for PC, and now Mac via Steam.

Chinese based MMO publisher and developer Perfect World has just bought a majority stake in Runic Games for around $8.84 million (R66 million).

Runic is busy working on an MMORPG version of Torchlight, which will supposedly be free-to-play, and make money via micro-transactions.
