Total War: Rome II

Total War Rome II packshot

Total War: Rome II promises a blend of turn-based strategy campaigning and cinematic real-time battles, set in the tumultuous era of the Roman Empire.

Aside from building and leading the greatest Roman army ever seen as the world’s first superpower, players will also become embroiled in the dangerous political machinations of Rome’s senate, struggle with family dilemmas, and question the loyalty of “friends” and allies.

Will you help forge an empire? Restore the Republic? Or grasp the reins of power for yourself, and assume the hated title of tyrant? Who will you conquer? Who will you betray? Who will you sacrifice?

Total War Rome: Destroy Carthage book by David Gibbins

Carthage, 146 BC. This is the story of Fabius Petronius Secundus – Roman legionary and centurion – and of his general Scipio Aemilianus, and his rise to power: from his first battle against the Macedonians, that seals the fate of Alexander the Great’s successors, to total war in North Africa and the Siege of Carthage.

Scipio’s success brings him admiration and respect, but also attracts greed and jealousy – for the closest allies can become the bitterest of enemies. And then there is the dark horse, Julia, of the Caesar family – in love with Scipio but betrothed to his rival Paullus – who causes a vicious feud.

Ultimately for Scipio it will come down to one question: how much is he prepared to sacrifice for his vision of Rome?

Inspired by Total War: Rome II, Destroy Carthage is the first in a series of novels. Not only the tale of one man’s fate, it is also a journey to the core of Roman times, through a world of extraordinary military tactics and political intrigue that Rome’s warriors and citizens used to cheat death.

David Gibbins is the author of seven previous historical adventure novels that have sold over two million copies and are published in twenty-nine languages. He taught archaeology, ancient history and art history as a university lecturer, before turning to writing fiction fulltime.

He is a passionate diver and has led numerous expeditions, some that led to extraordinary discoveries of ten-thousand-year-old artefacts. David divides his time between England and a farm and wilderness tract in Canada where he does most of his writing.
