Aion servers to be merged, XP grind made easier

21 May 2010

There was at one point so much hope for Aion. In an MMO landscape dominated by World of Warcraft, it seems that every mainstream MMO that comes along is pegged as a potential “WoW killer.”

Just like Age of Connan, Warhammer Online, and so many others before it, Aion seems to be steadily sinking into obscurity.

This trend is marked by a recent report over on Massively.com, which states that NCSoft will soon merge servers in order to “balance player populations.” This means that some servers will be shut down, a sure sign that player populations are dwindling.

From June 2 players will be able to transfer their characters between servers. Free transfers will be offered for a limited time. The next patch (1.9) will also make the game’s XP grind softer, a sign that NCSoft is looking to make the game more appealing to more casual players.
