Microsoft’s official @XboxSupport account was hacked and taken over for about 3 hours on Saturday, 11 January 2014.
The culprits were the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) – a group of hackers that seeks to keep people aware of the civil war raging in that country by taking over prominent websites and posting their anti-war messages.
Microsoft has since regained control of its account, but someone in marketing should probably be given a lesson in choosing a secure password.
SEA claims:
A Microsoft employee wanted to make his password more stronger, so he changed it from “Microsoft2″ to “Microsoft3″ #Happened #SEA
A number of prominent South African websites also fell victim of SEA back in September, including MyBroadband and NAG.
