Halo movie rumours killed, again

Like the yearly release of a generic FPS, rumours around the Halo movie project just won’t die.

Most recently, there were rumblings that Ridley Scott would be producing the project, sparked by a now deleted tweet from Production Weekly that said:

“The Halo project is a live-action feature-length digital produced by Ridley Scott.”

Ridley Scott producing a Halo film? That would be amazing. Sadly, Microsoft has stepped in to quash these rumours.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Microsoft said:

“The Halo franchise encompasses many elements, including games, action figures, novels and more. As always, we have many projects in the works that offer us the opportunity to bring in new audiences to the franchise, as we did in the past with Halo Legends and Halo: Forward Unto Dawn. We plan to continue telling the Halo story through innovative channels, but there are no plans for a Halo motion picture at this time.”

Previously, South African director Neill Blomkamp was attached to the movie, and even though it seems dead in the water, he’s still keen on doing it if the opportunity arises.

In terms of motion picture Halo stuff that is happening, Microsoft’s plans include a Halo television series, with award-winning filmmaker, director and producer, Steven Spielberg on board as executive-producer.

There is also talk of exclusive interactive Xbox One Halo content, created in partnership with game developer 343 Industries and Xbox Entertainment Studios.
