One of the world’s most respected video game publications, EDGE, has published an article claiming that one of their “trusted sources” has revealed that Microsoft’s motion sensing device may well get a name change.
The same source also claims that Natal will retail in the US for $149 (R1100). Apparently prices outside the US will be determined by a number of factors, such as exchange rates. . Once the device clears local customs, and all the relevant local mark-ups are made, we can expect to pay around R2000 for it, although this is speculation.
Neither Microsoft international nor Microsoft SA have committed to a price, and it is likely to be revealed at E3 next month.
Natal will also reportedly be bundled with the Xbox 360 Arcade for $299 (R2250). Again, this does not mean that we can expect to see the bundle retailing for R2250, and a ballpark figure of around R3000 is far more likely.
A global release date of October 26 was also confirmed.
Finally, the source also claimed that the device will definitely not be called “Natal” when it is launched, and its proper name will be revealed at E3.
The rumours carry significant weight due to EDGE’s high stature within the gaming media world. As usual, all Microsoft had to say about the report is that it “does not comment on rumour or speculation”.
